AMD Ryzen 200, Hawk Point refresh with Zen 4, arrives at the end of the year [RUMOR]

AMD is expected to repurpose its Hawk Point architecture to launch a new series of processors. The rumored Ryzen 200 family would arrive later this year, creating even more models with Zen 4 cores in order to compete with Intel’s Core 200 models based on Raptor Lake refresh.

The information comes from “Golden Pig Upgrade”, which has already proven to be a good source for rumors of this type. In his post, he draws a parallel with AMD dropping the “AI” from the nomenclature to denote an architecture refresh, just as Intel drops the “Ultra” on models that don’t use the latest technologies. Thus, just as we will have Intel Core Ultra 200 SKUs based on Raptor Lake, we will also have AMD Ryzen 200 SKUs based on Hawk Point.

If the rumors prove true, this will be the third set of Zen 4 processors. However, dropping the “AI” from the name may not be enough to denote that these aren’t Zen 5-based CPUs. Other Zen 4 models will use the previous naming style, Ryzen 7040 and 8040, while the Ryzen 200 will be closer to the Ryzen AI 300.

AMD processor list keeps growing

If the rumor proves to be true, we will have even more processor models being launched by the end of the year. Between Intel and AMD, refreshes and new architectures, the list of options for the consumer keeps growing.

While variety tends to be a positive thing, in order to offer people more choices, nomenclature becomes increasingly important. People can get confused with so many options, especially if they don’t follow each new product launch closely. And no one wants to end up buying a pig in a poke.
