AMD’s current generation of RDNA 3 GPUs is still expected to grow before the next generation arrives. Although it has not been made official by the company, there is still a AMD Radeon RX 7800Mmobile GPU, apparently exclusive to OneXPlayer, which already outperforms the GeForce RTX 4070 mobile in synthetic tests.

Until proven otherwise, the mid-range RDNA 3 mobile GPU is exclusive to the ONEXGPU 2, the Chinese manufacturer’s new eGPU solution, as the graphics chip has not appeared anywhere else to date, nor has it even been announced by AMD.

In 3DMark Time Spy, in the graphics score, the Radeon RX 7800M achieved 15,806 in the internal tests, about 3,500 points more than the RTX 4070 for notebooks in the same test. Interestingly, in the published video, the RDNA 3 GPU appears as Radeon 780M, iGPU RDNA 3, which normally does not even reach 3 thousand points.

AMD Radeon RX 7800M Configuration

According to OneXPlayer, AMD has decided to implement 12 GB of video memory in its new mid-range mobile GPU. Its TGP is 180W, the same as the Radeon RX 7900M, AMD’s top-of-the-line graphics chip for select high-end notebooks.

The Chinese manufacturer’s tests were carried out with one of its portable PCs, in this case the OnexPlayer X1 equipped with a Ryzen 7 8840U, an APU with 8 cores and 16 threads based on Zen 4, and the competent iGPU Radeon 780M, which has now been replaced by the Radeon 880M and 890M present in the new Ryzen AI 300 lineup.

For now, officially, the AMD Radeon RX 7800M does not appear in the mobile lineup, which is made up of five GPUs. There are two SKUs with 28 compute units (Radeon RX 7600S and RX 7600M and about 200 MHz difference between the two), in addition to two others with 32 cores (RX 7700S and RX 7600M XT).

At the top is the Radeon RX 7900M, which has more than twice as many cores as the second-strongest: 72 compute units. It is the only mobile GPU in the lineup with 64 MB of cache, while the rest have 32 MB, and 16 GB of VRAM, twice as much as the rest.

This gap between the two top mobile GPUs would be the ideal space to insert the AMD Radeon RX 7800M. Making this launch official, the mobile graphics chip will be available as an eGPU through the OneXGPU 2 and an Oculink connection, which offers twice the data transfer over the Thunderbolt 4 connection. There is no release date for the device yet.
