AMD Ryzen AI 300 mobile APUs have been showing their strength in gaming. A new test involving the top-of-the-line SKU, equipped with the iGPU Radeon 890Mshows that it outperforms the best implementation of Intel Arc integrated graphics, even with consumption almost halved.

The clash is between the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (17w), the best Strix Point APU, against the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H (28w), which has 16 Xe cores, the same amount as the iGPU of the top-of-the-line Meteor Lake APU (Core Ultra 9 185H), with the exception of 100 MHz less in frequencies.

The small TechEpiphany channel has several tests involving AMD’s APU. Let’s focus on comparing the two SKUs. The test involves old games like Tomb Raider (2013), Resident Evil 6 and Hellblade, as well as two more demanding ones: Cyberpunk 2077 and God of War.

Radeon 890m vs Intel Arc mobile in gaming

Older games were run at 1080p with the graphics preset maxed out. In Tomb Raider, the Radeon 890M easily reached over 60 FPS, with the Intel Arc iGPU barely breaking 40 FPS.

Resident Evil 6 is a game that doesn’t give integrated graphics chips a hard time, but AMD’s advantage reaches 20 FPS at times. But by the end of the test, heavy stuttering occurs on both sides with large drops in frame rate.

Hellblade, a 2017 game, is a bit of a challenge for the Core Ultra 7 155H’s iGPU, which struggles to deliver more than 30 FPS. The Radeon 890M manages to reach 45 FPS in the most demanding parts.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a much more demanding game than the others in this test series. At low settings, neither of the iGPUs can deliver 60 FPS, but AMD’s APU delivers an advantage of over 10 FPS.

God of War is the only game in which both graphics chips offer very similar performance, with a slight advantage for the AMD Radeon 890M with the game configured in original mode, which presents graphics similar to the PS4 version. This is also the only title in which the frametime line is stable, quite different from the rest of the games.

It is worth mentioning that the notebook equipped with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 has LPDDR5X-7500 memories, compared to the 6400 MT/s of the notebook with the Core Ultra 7 155H.

Another test from the same channel shows AMD’s APU operating at 17w, 24w, 35w and 54w. From the first to the last TDP, there is a performance increase of almost 20 FPS. In other words, the Radeon 890M at its full potential would have an even greater advantage over Meteor Lake compared. Remember that Lunar Lake CPUs will be the true rivals of AMD’s current APUs.
