The next generation of AMD Ryzen AI 300 (Strix Point) mobile APUs features Zen 5 cores and RDNA 3.5 graphics. According to leaked benchmarks made on Geekbench, the iGPU Radeon 890M is able to outperform the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti mobile by a small marginbut presents great improvements over top-of-the-line RDNA 3 integrated graphics.

These benchmarks show generational evolution, even though RDNA 3.5 is not yet a new generation. In relation to the Radeon 780M, the top-of-the-line iGPU present in the high-end Ryzen 7040/8040, the Radeon 890M’s evolution is 39%. If we consider the Radeon 680M (RDNA 2), the number rises to 59%.

Although the image below shows the Radeon 880M and Ryzen AI HX 170, the names are not correct, as they were changed at the last minute by AMD.

Radeon 890M benchmarks

AMD did not reveal details about the specific changes to this refresh graphics architecture, but we know that its largest implementation has 16 computing units operating at 2.9 GHz, which in itself already delivers more performance.

Radeon 890M beats even Titan X

The Radeon 780M also operates at this frequency, depending on the notebook manufacturer and how they want to work with the TDP. We’ve even seen it surpass the 3 GHz barrier with overclocking. But this RDNA 3 iGPU has four fewer computing units than the new top of the line.

Comparing it to other desktop GPUs, the Radeon 890M manages to outperform even the GeForce GTX Titan difference of 6%.

Remembering that we are talking about a synthetic benchmark (OpenCL) and these numbers do not necessarily reflect real gaming performance, but it gives us a good idea of the performance differences comparing different GPUs.

AMD Ryzen AI 300

Regarding the direct rival, we still don’t know what the Arc Xe2 (Battlemage) iGPUs, present in the Core Ultra 200V (Lunar Lake) are capable of, so we can compare the two architectures. However, we know that this new generation of Intel’s graphics architecture is up to 50% superior to the first one present in Meteor Lake, according to internal benchmarks.

The fact is that these new generation iGPUs are on a path where they will make entry-level video cards from previous generations less and less necessary, but it cannot be said that they will replace current weaker desktop GPUs such as the RX 6600 or RTX 3060 ( much less its successors), the difference in performance is still very large.

We don’t know when the Radeon 890M of the Ryzen AI 300 will hit the market, as AMD has not yet revealed a window, but the launch is expected for this year.
