AMD has revealed all the details about its upcoming mobile APU series, the Ryzen AI 300 (Strix Point). You can check out all the details in our article, but here we’ll take a look at the performance of the Radeon 890M iGPU. In gaming, the strongest integrated graphics leave behind rivals from Qualcomm and Intelaccording to AMD
The Radeon 890M, the top-of-the-line RDNA 3.5 iGPU featured in the Ryzen 9 HX 370, is up to 65% better against rivals from Qualcomm and Intel and their high-end chips from their current generations, Snapdragon X Elite and Ultra Core 100.
In performance-per-watt benchmarks, the RDNA 3.5-based iGPU delivers between 19% and 32% more performance in 3DMark Timespy and Night Raid compared to the Hawk Point (Ryzen 8040) with a 15W TDP. In other words, there is room for even more performance, since the TDP of the two SKUs officially announced so far is up to 54W.
Radeon 890M’s superior gaming performance
In games, AMD did not compare the Radeon 890M with its predecessor (Radeon 780M), but rather with the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H and Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite X1E-84-100, both top-of-the-line CPUs in their series.
The smallest advantage AMD’s iGPU has is in Far Cry 6 at 27% over Intel’s processor, which features the Arc iGPU implementation. The Snapdragon X Elite failed to run three of AMD’s chosen games: Far Cry 6, F1 2022 and Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Among the three SKUs chosen, Qualcomm’s is the one that delivered the lowest performance in these tests. The biggest advantage of the Radeon 890M is in the most recent Assassin’s Creed, reaching 65% more performance with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, the top-of-the-line CPU in this series.
These slides do not, however, reveal the frame rate achieved, nor the resolution and graphics preset. Even though these new iGPUs are stronger, we can assume that these are benchmarks done in FullHD with presets between minimum and medium, especially since almost all the titles chosen are heavy games.
The initial lineup of the Strix Point series also features the Ryzen AI 9 365, a SKU that is equipped with the Radeon 880M iGPU, an implementation of the RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics with 4 fewer computing units compared to the top-of-the-line SKU.
In a previous leak, we saw that the Radeon 890M delivered 39% performance over the Radeon 780M and 59% over the Radeon 680M (RDNA 2) in Geekbench. Comparing to other desktop GPUs, the RDNA 3.5 iGPU manages to outperform even the GeForce GTX Titan X released in 2016 by 4%, and is just behind (-2%) a Radeon RX 480 and not far behind the desktop GTX 1650 Ti with a 6% difference.
With everything we’ve seen about the AMD Radeon 890M, we’re close to another interesting evolution in iGPUs, and we’re talking about a mobile SKU, which has its limitations. The Ryzen AI 300 is expected later this month.
