AMD has prepared several products for its presentation at CES 2025, and one of its main launches is the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. This is the new “best processor in the world for gamers and creators”, according to its manufacturer, and arrives alongside the Ryzen 9 9900X3D as the new high-end options with 3D V-Cache for the PC.

AMD’s focus is on its most advanced new component. As appeared in previous leaks, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D has 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads. The processor clock can reach up to 5.7GHz in boost and the cache capacity is 144MB. For reference, the currently available Ryzen 7 9800 X3D offers 104MB of cache, and the number is already considered well above average.

The Ryzen 9 9900X3D also offers a considerable increase in cache compared to the 9800 X3D. The new processor comes with 140MB of capacity, and a boost clock of up to 5.5GHz, showing that it is just below the most high-end model. It comes with 12 cores and 24 threads.

Ryzen 9 9950X3D tests and comparisons

Obviously, it is not enough to talk about numbers without offering practical results. That’s why AMD released a performance comparison using the Ryzen 9 9950X3D to run different games. First, against its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. The company promises an average improvement of 8% across 40 games tested:

The tests were carried out with the processors accompanied by an RTX 4090, installed in an ASUS ROG Strix Z890-E Gaming WIFI, with 32GB of DDR5-6400 RAM. As expected, the operating system was Windows 11.

It is worth remembering that AMD’s promise is the “best processor for gamers and creators”. Thus, the company also released a comparison for “content creation”. In this case, these are results from varied tests, including benchmarks and programs like 7Zip and Adobe apps:

AMD X3D processors include new mobile version

Taking advantage of the expansion of its Ryzen 9000 series with new X3D models, AMD also announced its Fire Range line of processors, which also comes with an option with 3D V-Cache.

There are three new CPU models in the line 9000HX. Just like previous generations, these are desktop processors modified for use in notebooks and mini PCs, with a focus on high performance and gaming. This includes the Ryzen 9955HX3D, which AMD calls “the world’s best mobile processor for gaming and content creation.”

The 9955HX3D has specs very similar to the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, but much lower TDP as expected. Still, it reaches up to 5.4GHz in boost clock.

Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D arrive soon

AMD will expand its Ryzen 9000 portfolio with new high-end 3D V-Cache models in the first quarter of 2025. In other words, the company promises availability of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D by the end of March.
