The news that no one wants to hear: AMD will postpone the launch of the new CPUs Ryzen 9000.
The launch date had recently been confirmed by the company, with models in the Ryzen 9000 series arriving on July 31. But apparently, we will have to wait a little longer to see AMD’s new powerful products on the market.
Ryzen 9000 CPU launch delayed
Paraphrasing our iconic Diego Kerber: making processors is hard!
On Thursday afternoon (24), Jack Huynh, AMD’s senior vice president of computing and graphics, communicated via social media X (ex-Twitter) that the launch of the Ryzen 9000 series of processors should happen a little later than expected. Check out the post below:
“We appreciate the excitement surrounding the Ryzen 9000 series processors. During final inspections, we discovered that the initial production units shipped to our partners did not meet all of our quality expectations. Out of an abundance of caution and to maintain the highest quality and experience for all Ryzen users, we are working with our partners to replace the initial production units with new units. As a result, there will be a slight delay in retail availability. The Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X processors will be available on August 8th, and the Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X processors will be available on August 15th. We take pride in delivering a high-quality experience for all Ryzen users and hope our fans have a great experience with the new Ryzen 9000 series.”
With the expectation of getting their hands on the new CPUs as early as the end of July, buyers will now have to wait an extra one to two weeks to have the new processors in their machines. I highlight the new dates below:
- Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X will be officially launched on August 8, 2024;
- Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X will be officially launched on August 15, 2024.
In contact with The VergeAMD spokeswoman Stacy MacDiarmid said the company discovered that some chips were not tested properly; some units were found to have not gone through all the procedures they should have. As a result, a recall has been issued and additional testing will be performed on these chips before they can be put back on sale. According to MacDiarmid, AMD engineers believe that the launch of the new chips will not be delayed any further.
While it’s not that big of a delay, AMD misses out on the opportunity to catch Intel in “short pants”, and come out ahead in this second half of the year in relation to processors – since its competitor has faced serious problems in relation to the 13th and 14th generation of its CPUs, as you can see in the video below:
Let’s wait and see if AMD engineers’ optimism will come true and if there are no more delays in the new Ryzen 9000 CPUs and we can soon have this new product among us.
