Without any fanfare, AMD has confirmed the existence of a new RDNA 3 mobile GPU, the Radeon RX 7800M. The graphics chip had already appeared through OneXPlayer’s marketing for its new OneXGPU 2 product and now we have a look at its specifications, which are somewhat similar to the RX 7700 XT desktop.

The “reveal” of the new GPU is simply an official page on AMD’s website. The mobile graphics chip has 60 computational units (3,840 stream processors) operating at 2,145 MHz. There are 12 GB of GDDR6 memory at 18 Gbps in a 192-bit interface and 48 MB of Infinity Cache, the same configuration as the RX 7700 XT.

The Radeon RX 7800M is the second strongest mobile GPU in the lineup, behind only the RX 7900M, which is only available on select notebooks and, as you can imagine, the most expensive ones.

As mentioned above, the first time the new RDNA 3 GPU appeared was through OneXPlayer in the announcement of the OneXGPU 2, its new external GPU (eGPU) solution that is equipped with AMD’s new mobile graphics chip. The previous version of the product offered the Radeon RX 7600M XT.

Possible AMD Radeon RX 7800M performance

Since it is already undergoing internal testing, the Chinese manufacturer has revealed what to expect from the GPU’s performance. In synthetic tests, for example, it outperforms the GeForce RTX 4070 for notebooks.

As it is a mobile graphics chip, it shouldn’t take long for the first notebook manufacturers to announce models equipped with the Radeon RX 7800M.

The Radeon RX 7000 mobile lineup features five GPUs. There are two SKUs with 28 compute units (Radeon RX 7600S and RX 7600M and about 200 MHz difference between the two), in addition to two others with 32 cores (RX 7700S and RX 7600M XT).

At the top is the Radeon RX 7900M, which has more than twice as many cores as the second-strongest: 72 compute units. It is the only mobile GPU in the lineup with 64 MB of cache, while the rest have 32 MB, and 16 GB of VRAM, twice as much as the rest.

Even so, there is still a considerable gap between the AMD Radeon RX 7800M and the RX 7600M XT that would fit an “RX 7700M”, for example. Just to give you an idea, the number of cores of the new GPU is almost double compared to the one below it.
