[+update]: We have included AMD’s statement in full at the end of the post.
[+texto original]: After almost an entire weekend of confusion and miscommunication, AMD finally published a post on its blog once and for all explaining its change in strategy in distributing drivers for its Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000 GPUs, based on RDNA 1 and 2. Apparently, the cards will continue to support new games, after all.
After confirming that the cards would be placed in “maintenance mode” for future updates, AMD had to explain that this did not mean the end of optimizations for new games. Still, however, the company still placed an “as needed” conditional that seemed to not guarantee support for any game.

The new statement from the Radeon owner finally speaks categorically and without conditions, directly to the user.
“This is not the end of support for RDNA 2 and RDNA 2”, says the blog text, in free translation. “Your Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000 series GPUs will continue to receive:
- Game support for new releases
- Game optimizations and stability
- Security and bug fixes”
What, after all, was AMD’s change in driver strategy?
Sunday’s post (November 2nd) on AMD’s blog explains something that could have been said right at the implementation of driver 25.10.2, which started all the controversy.

“The difference is that these products now benefit from a dedicated branch for stable drivers, built on years of tuning and optimization” says the text. “By separating code paths, our engineers can move faster with new features for RDNA 3 and RDNA 4, while keeping RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 stable and optimized for current and future games.”
Miscommunication or change in posture?
The explanation is simple and should reassure AMD users who recently purchased a Radeon RX 6000 and don’t want to switch from Windows to Linux. In fact, it’s so simple that you have to wonder why the company didn’t speak in these terms in any of the statements it previously offered on the subject.

The people at VideoCardz are aware of the fact that the details for the 25.10.2 driver remain without an update, listing only the RX 7000 and RX 9000 with WHQL optimizations for Battlefield 6 and Vampire Bloodlines 2.
Note sent by AMD:
We’ve heard some feedback and want to clear up the confusion surrounding the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.10.2 driver release.
This update introduces two optimized driver paths: one for RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 (Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000 Series) and one for RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 (Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 Series).
What does this mean for you?
That does not mark the end of support for RDNA 1 and RDNA 2. Your Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000 GPUs will continue to receive:
- Support for new game releases
- Game stability and optimization improvements
- Security updates and bug fixes
The difference is that these GPUs will now have their own stable driver branch, based on years of optimization.
This allows us to deliver a more fluid, reliable and consistent gaming experience, while keeping previous generations protected from rapid changes designed for newer architectures.
Why are we making this change?
Our goal is very clear: to give every Radeon gamer the best experience possible.
By separating development paths, our engineers can move faster with new features for RDNA 3 and RDNA 4, while keeping RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 stable and optimized for current and future games.
Our commitment to you
At AMD, we’ve been with Radeon gamers for generations, and that’s not going to change. Whether you play with an RX 5000, RX 6000, or the latest RX 9000, you can continue to count on the reliability, performance, and support you expect from AMD.
Because we’re all part of the same gaming community and every Radeon gamer matters.
