A report from Korean media Sedaily states that AMD would be negotiating with Samsung to manufacture 2nm components. The company would have achieved improvements in its new process, while TSMC, the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturer, has faced saturation of its production capacity.

“The two companies plan to finalize the contract around January of next year, evaluating whether the process can really achieve the level of performance that AMD requires,” says the report. “However, the industry believes production is likely.”

WCCFTech reports that Samsung has secured important contracts with Apple and Tesla in recent months, which should have helped the credibility of the new generation of its manufacturing process.

If an agreement with AMD is officially confirmed, it will probably maintain Samsung’s momentum in increasingly positioning itself as an alternative to TSMC at a time when the Taiwanese giant is unable to meet the demand for advanced chips.

Could Samsung be a second AMD Epyc Venice component maker?

It is interesting to remember that AMD has already officially announced a contract with TSMC to manufacture Epyc Venice chips at 2nm. The new generation of AMD’s professional processors marked the first line for HPC with official confirmation in the Taiwanese manufacturer’s most advanced process.

Therefore, it is still open to speculation which component Samsung can actually manufacture if it closes a contract with AMD.

WCCFTech speculates that the South Korean company may come in as a second line of support for its own Epyc Venice CPUs, to guarantee the necessary production volume that TSMC could not achieve with the processors.

Another possibility is that the contract is being closed now, well in advance, to secure the next Ryzen line, currently known as Olympic Ridge. These processors are scheduled for the end of 2026, giving AMD plenty of time to test and approve Samsung’s 2nm manufacturing quality.

Rumors indicate that Samsung should have prototypes of AMD chips soon, so it shouldn’t take long for new information to appear about this possible partnership.
