AMD launches Epyc 9005 Turin processors with up to 192 cores

As previously promised, AMD launched today, October 10th, its new Epyc 9005 line of processors for servers and data centers. The components, also known as the Turin generation, come with options with up to 192 Zen 5c cores, ranging from 155W to 500W in TDP.

The new Epyc 9005 series was announced at the same event in which AMD spoke about its Instinct GPUs and Ryzen AI PRO 300 processors. The Turin generation components are manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm and 4nm processes, and AMD promises gains in up to 17% in instructions per clock (IPC) for enterprise and cloud and up to 37% in IPC in HPC and AI.

AMD also released several graphs showing how its new Epyc outperforms not only the previous generation, but also its rival’s Intel Xeon 5. It is worth mentioning, however, that Intel has just launched the Xeon 6, which could offer a more competitive and updated comparison.

The area where the “red side” of strength continues to stand out, however, is in price. While the 128-core Xeon 6 broke a new cost record at US$17,800, the more advanced Epyc 9005, with 192 cores, costs US$14,813. Below, the complete list of models and their prices:

AMD celebrates growth of the Epyc line in the market

Taking advantage of the arrival of a new generation of its processors for data centers, AMD celebrated some numbers regarding the growth in the market share of Epyc CPUs.

The company released a graph that shows an accelerated conquest of space by components, which jumped from just 2% in its debut (2018) to 34% in the first quarter of 2024.
