The AMD Kraken Point APUs may only arrive alongside the Strix Halo models next year, but several rumors are already circulating about both new processors and a new leak suggests that both will support LPDDR5X-8000 memory.

Initially, only the new Strix Halo processors were associated with the use of memory with a speed of 8000 MT/s. However, misinformation was shared on social media and Lenovo’s product manager clarified the situation to the public.

All I can say is that the Kraken Point will support up to 8000Mhz LPDDR5X. A lot of information has been released to the manufacturers, but I can’t go into detail right now. I just can’t stand some people who play tricks, talk nonsense and pretend to have information (or have outdated information), making people think blindly.

Reproduction

Taking into account that the Strix Point APUs (AMD Ryzen AI 300) support LPDDR5X-7500 memory, bringing support to LPDDR5X-8000 in both Strix Halo and Kraken Point sounds like a natural evolution – especially since both will be available “together” on the market, possibly in early 2025.

The arrival of AMD Kraken Point APUs

It is important to remember that the AMD Kraken Point APUs will not arrive to replace the Strix Point or continue its line. It will use four Zen5 cores and will have limited capacity to use the RDNA 3.5 iGPU (with up to 8 computational units).

AMD wants to highlight them in the mainstream notebook segment, while the others will be aimed at gaming. Rumors indicate that the manufacturer will officially announce both only at CES 2025 – possibly alongside the new Radeon RX 8000 GPUs.

AMD’s focus

Despite continuing to stand out in the desktop and gaming segment, AMD intends to grow even more in the notebook, mini PC and laptop market.

Currently, the Z1 Extreme APU is one of the main choices of manufacturers for their handheld gaming devices, becoming a great option within this industry. With the arrival of the Strix Halo and Kraken Point, the intention is to expand this even further and strengthen its position among commercial partners and the public.
