AMD senior vice president Andrej Zdravkovic gave an interview to PCWorld where he spoke extensively about the company’s new FSR Redstone technology. He didn’t offer much news for the future of feature support, but highlighted that the company welcomes community experimentation.
Unfortunately for anyone who would like to see more comprehensive official support for FSR Redstone, AMD remains steadfast in its stance of only offering RDNA 4 GPUs. Basically the Radeon RX 9000 series of dedicated graphics cards at this point.

At least, however, Zdravkovic suggests that the company does not take a dim view of the community’s experimentation in bringing support for the new FSR to more video cards, especially last-generation RDNA 3 GPUs.
“All encouragement to them”, declared the executive. “I’m a geek myself, so I would do it with any technology.”
FSR Redstone would be left out of RDNA 3 due to hardware limitations
Zdravkovic explains that AMD’s position on supporting FSR Redstone only on RDNA 4 GPUs is to ensure a quality experience with the technology.

The executive states that the Machine Learning (ML) resources used by the new generation of FSR “compete” for performance in each frame generated. This way, if the GPU can’t handle it, the result works against itself, where trying to improve one thing harms the other. “You have to reduce the frame rate to double it,” says Zdravkovic.

The PCWorld interviewer asked if we might see a beta or prototype version of FSR Redstone for RDNA 3, something AMD is not confirming at this time. The vice president, however, commented that this could be an interesting alternative, adding that the company “definitely won’t hold back anything that really makes a difference”, referring to older hardware.
