AMD appears to be planning new products based on the AM4 socket, compatible with Ryzen 5000 series processors, based on Zen 3. The reason for this, as well as many other companies thinking about the return of old products, is to offer hardware compatible with DDR4 components, while memory prices continue to rise.
Among the thousands of advantages that Big Techs promise with generative AI, time travel has not yet appeared. But that’s what seems to be happening in the domestic PC component segment, with more and more companies like AMD turning to old hardware for their customers to buy something.

With the rise in memory components, many people prefer not to fully upgrade, and are buying older processors that are more advanced than they have now, but do not require replacing the motherboard. This is something that AMD is aware of, as commented by David McAfee, one of its executives:
“AMD is certainly looking at everything they can do to bring more supply and kind of reintroduce products back into the ecosystem to satisfy the demand of gamers who maybe want that significant upgrade to their AM4 platform without having to redo their entire system.”

McAfee’s speech came in an interview with several journalists at CES 2026, while talking about the current situation in the PC market and the memory crisis. AMD confirms that data from its Radeon Adrenalin software indicates that a large number of users still use Ryzen 3000 or even Ryzen 2000 processors.

It is these users that the company can target with new products based on Zen 3. The executive also said that this is something that AMD would “certainly be working very actively” to resolve, but without confirming that they are in fact new processors that we will see.
So far, the certainty we have is that there are no predictions for the situation to improve in 2026. Therefore, more and more solutions from companies concerned about a complete stagnation of the domestic components market should appear.
