Despite Steam’s hardware survey saying otherwise, we know that the Radeon RX 6600 series of GPUs is one of AMD’s most popular. Unfortunately, it is now coming to an end due to the natural cycle of generations. The information comes from Board Channels, an information channel for manufacturers partnered with AMD, Intel and NVIDIA.
According to the new rumor, the entire RX 6600 series, including the base version, the RX 6600 XT, and the RX 6650 XT, have already entered the discontinuation stage. Most manufacturers no longer have stock of these models and some of them have a small quantity available.
Below this series is the Radeon RX 6500 XT and it will be the main model for manufacturers, in this entry-level segment of AMD, and will continue to be sold until at least the end of the year.
Radeon RX 6600 replacement
The person responsible for the unofficial information also says that the 10 GB RX 6750 GRE, which is a GPU between the RX 6650 XT and RX 6600 XT in gaming performance, will become the mainstream model with the highest sales volume, at least in China, as this model is aimed at the Chinese market.
In other words, instead of the entry-level series with the most performance, which is the RX 6600 and its variants, AMD’s partners should focus on the RX 6750 GRE 10 GB as the main model, as it does not offer a level of performance that is so far removed from those that are being discontinued.
The RDNA 2 GPUs, based on Navi 23, have already been naturally replaced by the Radeon RX 7600, which offers a good performance gain over its predecessor.
On the green side of graphics cards, NVIDIA is also discontinuing the Radeon RX 6600’s rival, the GeForce RTX 3060, which is currently the most popular GPU in Steam’s hardware survey. It, too, has been replaced by the RTX 4060, which will compete with the RX 7600.
I used a Radeon RX 6600, ASRock’s cheapest model that usually sells for R$1,200 in promotions, and it was a very competent video card in heavy games at 1080p, configured at medium/high and sometimes with the help of upscaling in poorly optimized games (it was the way).
The RX 7600 can now be found for prices close to the RX 6600, depending on the model, making it a clear choice for those looking for entry-level GPUs, especially with the RTX 4060 still costing over R$2,000.
