AMD B840 and B850 entry-level boards only arriving in 2025 [RUMOR]

AMD has reportedly postponed the launch of its B840 and B850 chipset motherboards. These are expected to be the most affordable Ryzen 9000-ready models, but they’re only expected to arrive in 2025, according to current rumors.

The information comes from the ComputerBase website, which claims to have spoken to people close to the matter. Thus, first we will have the more advanced X870 and X870E models arriving in September and only months later the entry-level AMD boards with B840 and B850.

It is common practice for manufacturers to start their product launches with more expensive models for enthusiasts, and only later offer “budget” options. In the case of the new generation of Ryzen processors, those looking to save money will not be at such a disadvantage because the new Zen 5-based CPUs are still compatible with the current 600 series of motherboards. In other words, with a simple BIOS update, it is already possible to exchange the processor for a newer one.

As the image above shows, the main disadvantage of the entry-level models is the lack of USB 4. Those who want to take advantage of the universal connection with 40Gbps will need to invest more for an AMD X870 or X870E. In addition, some B850 models will offer PCIe Gen 5 or Gen 4, while the cheaper B840 models only come with Gen 3.

Delay would explain few AMD B850 and B840

The folks at Tom’s Hardware point out that the delay in the launch of AMD’s more affordable motherboard models would explain why we haven’t seen many SKUs appearing from the manufacturer’s partners. ASUS, for example, already showed off its wide portfolio of X870 and X870E options this week.

Meanwhile, we haven’t had many significant announcements of B840 and B850 boards. Maxsun did mention the models when it revealed its product list, but without many details about the components.

By all indications, we will indeed have to wait until 2025 for entry-level motherboards for Ryzen 9000.
