During Computex 2025, AMD confirmed the return of the Threadripper series, Bringing the Zen 5 architecture to Workstations and Hedt Systems (High-End Desktop). The official launch is scheduled for July, about a year after the arrival of desktop models.

The processors of this series come with until 96 Nuclei and 192 Threads in the main model, the 9995WX. AMD’s newest Threadrippers “Shimada Peak” also bring improvements to Zen 5 architecture to the main processors of the WX series for workstations and not Pro.

According to AMD, they offer up to 2.2 times more performance in rendering than Intel’s fastest Xeon-W chips.

Pro Series and WX Series

The ThreadRipper 9000 was divided into two lines: The Threadripper Pro (WX-Series), aimed at workstations and demanding professionals, and the threadripper x-series, with hedt modelswithout the pro marking, but still with high performance.

As in the previous generation, the X Series will not have the largest nucleus count models, but will still offer options of up to 64 cores, such as Threadripper 9980X.

For hedt system enthusiasts, the X series will feature the 64 -core 9980x models; 9970x, of 32 nuclei; and the 9960x, 24 nuclei. And unlike the Pro series, these models support only DDR5-6400 memory in a 4-channel configuration, while the Pro support 8 channels.

PRO SERIES HIGHTS

The highlight of the releases was for the ThreadRipper Pro 9995WX, which becomes the most powerful model within the AMD nomenclature. He arrives with 96 Zen 5, 384 MB of Cache L3 and Clock Boost of up to 5.4 GHz, shared by all pro models.

The other models come with 64 cores (9985wx), 32 cores (9975wx), 24 cores (9965wx), 16 cores (9955wx) and 12 cores (9945x).

The Str5 motherboards (TRX50) also support models with 16 and 12 centers, expanding accessibility for users who do not seek benchmark records, but want The 128 Lanes PCIE Gen5 available on the platform.

Changes in Architecture

AMD also redesigned the disposal of Core Complex Dies (CCD) on the non-pro line, removing some more distant chipples from I/O DIE. Although this does not appear in official renders, real CPUs include false chipples in those positions.

To date, the prices of new processors have not been disclosed.
