We are still a good few months away from the arrival of the first processors based on Zen 6, but AMD has already released a new roadmap highlighting the future of its CPUs. This is the first time that the company has officially mentioned Zen 7 in something designed to be released to the general public.
The new image, however, was really designed for a very superficial disclosure, without offering many details about Zen 7. The first thing to note, for example, is that the timeline changes color for this generation of processors, ending in 2026 with Zen 6 and Zen 6c, which is a way for AMD not to commit to a launch year for Zen 7.

One piece of information that we can understand from the roadmap, however, is that the company intends to continue investing in AI in the coming years. Zen 6 CPUs already appear prominently to support a new type of AI data and more technology pipelines. The next generation, meanwhile, promises expansion in data formats for AI and a new Matrix engine, of which we currently don’t know the details.

AMD’s new roadmap also highlights that its Zen 6 processors will be “the industry’s first at 2nm”. The information highlights a disclosure that the company has already made, mentioning that the Epyc “Venice” will be the first HPC CPUs manufactured with TSMC’s 2nm technology.

Next, we have the Zen 7 listed with a “future node”, showing that AMD intends to use an even smaller manufacturing process for the next generation of its CPUs. This shows how the company wants to maintain an accelerated pace of adoption of new lithographs in new versions of processors.

As we can see in the roadmap itself, from Zen 4 to Zen 5 we had an intersection of the 4nm process. The Zen 6, meanwhile, will immediately move to 2nm and the Zen 7 to an upcoming technology – possibly the 1.6nm process, also from TSMC.
