Summary
- Amazon offers free shipping and same-day delivery to Prime subscribers on purchases from R$19 in selected cities.
- Mercado Livre also offers free shipping from R$19, but without the need for a subscription, with longer delivery times.
- Amazon’s service is only available for select products and requires orders placed by a specific time.
Amazon Prime subscribers will be able to count on free shipping and same-day delivery on purchases starting at R$19 — previously, this benefit was restricted to orders above R$99. The service will only be offered in the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre and Recife, as well as in the regions adjacent to them.
With the change in policy, Amazon responds to Mercado Livre, which now offers free shipping on products starting at R$19. In the case of the competitor, delivery is not fast. On the other hand, it is not necessary to subscribe to any plan like Prime or even Meli+.
How does Amazon same day delivery work?
According to Amazon, the delivery service is only available for selected products, which will be identified with the “Delivery today” label. Additionally, orders must be placed by a certain time, which may vary depending on the item and region.
“The expansion of same-day deliveries represents a significant investment in our logistics infrastructure in Brazil and demonstrates our long-term commitment to the country”, says Juliana Sztrajtman, president of Amazon Brazil.

For Prime customers, this delivery is free. For those who don’t subscribe, Amazon promises to offer the service “at a competitive shipping price”, in the words of the statement.
It is worth mentioning that Amazon Prime costs R$19.90 for the monthly plan, which can be canceled at any time, or 12 installments of R$13.90 for the annual plan. The package also includes Prime Video, Amazon Music Prime, Prime Gaming and access to e-books and magazines.
Mercado Livre invested in free shipping
One of Amazon’s main competitors in the Brazilian market, Mercado Livre now offers free shipping on selected new products starting at R$19. There are some conditions to benefit from, such as weight, shipping distance and delivery method.
Free shipping from Mercado Livre is not linked to any subscription. The company even offers Meli+, with benefits ranging from cashback on purchases to access to streaming services, but free shipping is not part of the package and is available to all customers.
On the other hand, Mercado Livre’s free shipping period is usually longer. For faster delivery, a fee is generally charged.
