An engineering sample of a Strix Halo APU appears to have been spotted on GeekBench 5. The alleged APU appears with 8 cores and 16 threads, with a maximum clock of 5.36GHz, showing how these components should arrive with much more power than the Strix Point.

In addition to the number of cores and clock speed, the listing reveals 32MB of L3 cache and 8MB of L2 cache. The sample under test never reaches its maximum clock speed, staying around 3.4GHz most of the time. According to WCCFTech, it is common for an engineering sample to have inconsistent clock speeds compared to what we see in the final product.

In these configurations, the processor scored 2,099 points in single-core and up to 13,993 points in multi-core. Unfortunately, it is difficult to compare it with modern processors, since the tests were performed in GeekBench 5 and not 6. However, compared to a Ryzen 7 8845HS, the numbers are quite promising, since the last generation processor only achieved 1,850 points in single and 11,000 in multi.

The information that we are indeed looking at a Strix Halo component comes from HXL (@9550pro) on Twitter. The account is known for accurate leaks in the hardware world, especially when it comes to AMD.

What to expect from Strix Halo?

The Strix Halo APUs are expected to offer more advanced Zen 5-based component options. While the Strix Point will launch soon in the form of the Ryzen AI 300, Strix Halo is expected to arrive only in 2025.

A chiplet design is expected, allowing for SKUs with up to 16 cores, with up to 64MB of cache. The integrated GPU will be based on RDNA 3+, with up to 40 compute units, and we already have rumors about its potential performance.

The NPUs, however, would use the same XDNA 2 architecture present in Strix Point, with up to 60 TOPS of performance. Finally, to reach all this potential, the WCCFTech team reports TDP of up to 130W in the most advanced models.
