Apple’s transition away from its Lightning connector, which debuted more than 12 years ago, has been gradual, and the AirPods Max represent one of the last bastions of that technology in the company’s broad product lineup.

Last year, Apple attempted a compromise by introducing a USB-C charging case for the AirPods Pro 2 — a convenient way for users to enjoy the convenience of USB-C without having to buy new headphones. However, AirPods Max owners don’t have that option and will need to purchase the new model to take advantage of the USB-C upgrade.

New AirPods Max colors

In addition to the updated charging port, the new generation of AirPods Max will debut with a fresh palette of colors to choose from. Five new colors are available to capture the attention of consumers: midnight, starlight, vibrant blue, a striking orange and a stylish purple.

The price remains unchanged from the previous model, costing $549. Interested parties can place their pre-orders starting today, and the scheduled date for availability of the new AirPods Max is September 20, promising to elevate users’ experiences when it comes to consuming audiovisual content.
