One day after the officialization of the PS5 Pro, the world continues to digest the price of the new bet of Sony. The console will hit the market on November 7th for the suggested price of US$ 699.99.

We have already discussed this article as the price of the PS5 Pro, based on what was shown in the presentation, sounds absurd, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the console will fail. Analysts already point out that the console could have sales numbers similar to the PS4 Proand that price may not be an impediment to the product’s success, especially considering a globalized context.

Bringing the discussion to a more regional level, highlighting Brazil, for example, the cost factor ends up having an extra point in this aspect of the difficulty of purchase, considering the value set in dollars. Due to the high price of the PS5 Pro, many people remembered that edition of the PS that was also marked by a price considered frightening. PlayStation 3launched by the Japanese giant in 2006.

The term scared even made its way into the Sony backrooms. Shuei Yoshida, former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studiosclassified the fateful day of the console’s announcement, during E3 2006, as a “scary moment”, precisely due to the pricing factor. The listed price was US$499 for the version with 20 GB of storage and US$600 for the version with 60 GB of storage.

In Brazil, the shock was even greater. The console only officially arrived here in August 2010 (in its slim version). However, in 2006, it was already possible to purchase it from importers. Prices varied between R$4,000 and R$6,000. In addition, of course, to the advertisement, which became a meme over the years, from Lojas Americanas. who sold the console for R$7,980.

How much would the PS3 cost in 2024?

Considering the full price in dollars, in its most expensive version, the US$ 600 of 2006, corrected for inflation, would represent today US$ 937. It’s worth remembering that the PS3 came with a disc drive, an option that isn’t a reality with the PS5 Pro. On Sony’s new console, it’s an additional $80 for the drive, plus about $30 for the vertical stand. So, we have a total US$ 810.

And in real terms? The official price of the PS3 in Brazil was R$1,999. In adjusted values, it would be equivalent today to R$ 5.355,9.

Again, considering the price in dollars, less than a year after the PS3’s launch, Sony cut the price of the console by $100, the big motivator for this being the strong competition from the Xbox 360 at the time. Will the PS5 Pro also get an official price cut when it approaches its one-year mark?
