Acer CEO Jason Chen stated that Acer laptop retail prices in the US will rise 10%. “We need to adjust the price to the end user to reflect the fare… We think 10% will probably be the standard price increase due to import tax.” The statement was made during a recent interview with The Telegraph.
The increase is due to new import rates that Trump administration is imposing on its trade war with China. Economists have predicted higher prices on most finished products, but companies have been hesitant to provide specific numbers on the impact of these increases.
The 10% rate imposed by Trump on China products is added to other existing import rates. Thus, consumers must see the highest prices in Acer laptops from March 2025.

The US president even mentioned 25 to 100% rates on Taiwan chips and companies such as Microsoft, Dell and HP have asked suppliers to accelerate production and ensure stocks before the new president’s term began.
Nvidia and AMD would also have accelerated the stock of new GPUS to avoid Trump’s rates. Even more than Nvidia recently launched the new series in the Series 50.
Other countries have already signaled a reaction, with South Korea manifesting to assist manufacturers of national chips. A new law provides financial subsidies for companies such as Samsung, LG and SK Hynix.
Increased rates

Trump considered increasing taxes on products and materials from various American business partners, including close allies such as Canada and Mexico. The chip giant, and Acer’s home territory, Taiwan, is also included.
Chen said that changing China’s manufacturing centers, as Asrock has done, could be a solution. Although he suggested production in the US as an alternative, labor and material costs would make the United States an inadequate replacement, except for the most expensive finished products.
The new administration has also applied more specific rates on essential import materials such as steel and aluminum, further exacerbating manufacturing costs in domestic industries such as automotive.
On the other hand, Biden administration tried to stimulate domestic production of chips with chips ACT. However, it is years until the increase in the capacity of Foundries can be cast. Trump plans to review the Act chips agreements.
Impact

Most laptops and other finished electronics are mounted in China, including the vast majority of the industry’s largest lines, such as Acer, Lenovo, Dell, Apple, Asus and HP. They will all face the same fares about finished laptops and other products.
As observed by the consumer technology association and others, American buyers will have to get used to increasing computers and other electronicspossibly throughout Trump’s four -year term.
It is noteworthy that this increase may not be perceived in Brazil and, if it happens, it will not necessarily be due to Trump fares. Brazil does not need to import computers from the US, importing straight from China.
