The memory crisis could soon become the “hardware crisis” if the current trend is confirmed for the global component market. Information coming from China indicates that coolers and fountains will be the next products affected with a rise in prices, which should appear soon for consumers.
The hype for AI generated an exaggerated demand for memories that immediately impacted component prices. Now, however, other unfinished materials have started to be affected as well, which should be reflected in even more products becoming more expensive.
Chinese company Guangzhou Xinhong Zhengdian Electronic Technology issued a statement explaining that materials such as copper, silver and tin have increased in price significantly in recent months, and now this pressure is increasing production costs considerably.
The company also says that material suppliers stopped accepting new orders at the old prices on January 6, so orders for this year should already be more expensive.
Price increases in coolers and power supplies are still lower than in memories
Despite the information coming from one company, for now, it is to be expected that other component manufacturers are in the same situation – since we are talking about material costs.
The company, however, projects much less significant increases than the “boom” we saw in memories. Power supplies are expected to be between 6% and 10% more expensive, while heatsinks used in coolers will likely see an increase of between 6% and 8%.

It’s not even close to the multiple jumps we saw in memory prices at the end of 2025, but there are even more components for the PC making it increasingly prohibitive to upgrade in 2026. Not only that, now that the demand for AI is also affecting different materials, if the trend continues, we should see the increases become more significant and reach more and more products throughout the year.
