At CES 2026, AMD introduced the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, its latest 3D cache upgrade, which comes with an average 7% improvement compared to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The launch should take place this quarter, but enthusiasts were waiting for the announcement of the first processor with dual 3D cache, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2.
Unfortunately, it has not been announced and this may lead users to think that AMD will not release a dual 3D cache chip anytime soon. It is not necessary, as its processors already offer the best gaming performance on the market.
However, CES attendees received a surprising tip from AMD that they should watch out for.

Evidence

Even on their press site for the Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor, AMD had published images of a chip with two CCDs. It’s possible that someone used old images from the 9950X and 9950X3D launches, but yes, it’s possible that AMD had plans to announce the 9950X3D2 but changed its mind.
This suggests that the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 could still reach enthusiasts. But that’s not the only tip. Gigabyte, during its CES 2026 event, also introduced the next-generation “Ryzen 9000X3D” processors with “more cores, higher clocks, greater potential”.
It is known that the Ryzen 7 9850X3D maintains the same core count and that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D was already launched last year. This suggests that Gigabyte was also referring to a product with a larger virtual 3D cache, such as the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2.
Information already known

The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 will be the third variant with 16 cores and 32 threads and should be positioned as the main chip of the Zen 5 “Ryzen 9000” architecture. It should operate with a TDP of 200W and will have 192 MB of cache.
The chip will maintain the same base frequency of 4.30 GHz, but the boost frequency will be reduced to 5.6 GHz, a 100 MHz decrease compared to the 9950X3D and 9950X.
Ryzen 9 9950X3D2
- 16 cores Zen 5
- 192 MB cache (needs X3D CCDs)
- Frequencies up to 5.6 GHz
- tdp of the 200 w
For comparison, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D offers 16 cores, 32 threads, with a boost frequency of up to 5.7 GHz at 170 W and a total of 128 MB of L3 cache. This is achieved using an X3D boosted CCD with 64MB of 3D V-Cache and 32MB of on-CCD cache, while the second CCD comes with the standard 32MB on-CCD cache.
The new 16-core variant it should also include an additional 64 MB on the second die, reaching up to 192 MB of cache, the highest value ever seen in a CPU for conventional desktops.
