Steam’s latest hardware survey for 2025 shows interesting trends as we bid farewell to last year. AMD has once again increased its market share over Intel, which continues to shrink. Meanwhile, despite the rise in memory prices, the number of machines with greater capacity increased in December.
Starting with processors, we have seen a growing trend in the presence of AMD Ryzen since the beginning of the year. In July there was an atypical slight drop, but overall the company’s share grew a lot throughout the year.

Steam’s December 2025 survey shows a 4.66% growth jump for AMD processors, taking its presence in home PCs to 47.27%. The number still places the company behind Intel, but the rival has shrunk.
If the trend continues in the coming months, 2026 could be the year that companies reverse their dominant positions in Windows gaming PCs and notebooks.
Another aspect that draws attention in Steam’s most recent survey is the number of computers with 32GB of RAM. In December we had an increase of 2.11% among participants, which brings the presence of this capacity to 39.07% of the machines in the survey.

The number is very close to 40.14% of systems with 16GB, which are still the majority. Larger capacities such as 48GB and 64GB also showed growth in the month, although less expressive.

Growth may seem like a paradox at a time when memory prices keep rising, but that’s probably not the case. With projections that the trend is only going to get worse, it is most likely that Steam users are rushing to upgrade while they can, to still get new modules before prices get even higher throughout 2026.
