Maxon has just announced the new Cinebench 2026, the new version of one of the main benchmark tools on the market. It comes ready to test the limits of processors and GPUs with an updated and more demanding graphics engine.

Cinebench 2026 uses the latest version of the Redshift graphics engine, which, according to Maxon, is six times more rigorous in multithreaded testing compared to the previous version. This leads to the observation that scores with the new graphics engine cannot be compared with previous versions of Cinebench.

As expected, the updated graphics engine integrated into the benchmark should also better reflect the real demands of 3D artists. It also provides greater parity between test results and actual rendering tasks.

The new SMT core test should be of particular interest to testers. It specifically uses a single-core test procedure on an SMT-capable core. This is so users can get an idea of how good the chip’s SMT implementation is compared to running a single thread.

The list of compatible hardware has also expanded. The latest generations of consumer graphics cards from AMD and NVIDIA are all present on the list, which also includes NVIDIA’s Ampere Altra, Hopper, and Blackwell data center GPUs, as well as AMD’s Radeon Pro series.

Owners of Intel graphics chips are still out of luck, as they are not yet compatible with the Redshift engine.

In Apple’s case, the new M4 and M5 chips are now part of the list, as expected. Still speaking of ARM-based chips, just like in Cinebench 2024, there is a native version for Windows-on-Arm, along with support for NVIDIA’s Ampere Altra CPUs.

Cost

The new features have an expected price. For the GPU tests, Cards with 8GB or more of VRAM are required.

The benchmark is now compatible with Apple’s M4 and M5 chips, and considering that M-series computers use unified memory, Maxon says users will need 16GB to run the GPU tests.

In the case of CPU testing on Apple machines, 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM may be enoughalthough the company notes that performance may not reach the specified level.

Interested technology enthusiasts can download Cinebench 2026 from the Maxon website and start testing their computers to the fullest. Supported operating systems include Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS 14.7 or higher.
