The DDR4 memory generation was very close to coming to an end this year, with all the biggest manufacturers in the world announcing that they would no longer produce the modules. However, impressive price inflation, driven by AI hype, could make ASUS increase the longevity of its motherboards compatible with the past generation of memories.

The information is not official and should be treated as a rumor. On the famous Board Channels, a post is circulating saying that the company intends to increase production of boards of this type at the beginning of 2026:

ASUS AM4 Motherboard

“According to ASUS’ plans for motherboard production in the first quarter of 2026, the company will make strategic adjustments to its supply chain and capacity allocation, with a strong focus on increasing investment in the DDR4 board market,” says the post.

Since the idea is to offer more affordable options for consumers, the focus of production would not be on high-end boards.

“On the AMD platform, ASUS intends to significantly increase supply of the B550 and A520 series of DDR4 cards, expanding production capacity to meet growing market demand. On the Intel platform, the company will prioritize increasing supplies of mainstream models such as the B760M and H610M-G for e-commerce channels, closely aligning with online consumer demand and sales trends.”

DDR4 outlines return for an atypical year

The crisis in the memory market has resulted in complicated projections for the year 2026. While prices continue to rise, demand from large companies for AI components is also increasing, while module manufacturers do not yet want to allocate more capacity to end consumers.

The result will be more atypical alternatives that cannot really be considered solutions. We will see consumers being forced to “upgrade” with DDR4 components from the previous generation, while others have even opted for memory for notebooks on the desktop to find some extra savings.

In any case, each segment of IT is suffering price increases due to the situation, and people have tried to rush only to products that have increased less.
