Samsung would have discreetly sent investigators to the company’s division in Taiwan in order to investigate possible cases of bribery involving the sale of its DRAM and NAND memories. The information is not official, but comes from DigiTimes Asia, known for its correct reporting for the continent.

As has been the case in recent months, the case is yet another involving the shortage of memory components on the market. The world’s biggest manufacturers, like Samsung, aren’t keeping up with the hype’s insatiable appetite for generative AI. Larger companies are prioritized, while others are left without orders, even if they are willing to pay the increasingly inflated prices for DRAM and NAND.

That’s why Samsung is investigating whether some of its employees accepted bribes to secure orders for companies. “The investigation mainly involves several Samsung employees and distributors, who are suspected of having received bribes related to memory chips,” says DigiTimes. “Even Singapore and China are involved.”

The website states that interviews have been conducted in recent days and that there have already been some personnel changes in the sales and marketing departments. Samsung was contacted to comment on the case and said only that the investigation is part of the company’s routine processes, and did not go into details.

The alleged bribery case involving Samsung employees is one of the first we have reported on, but it probably won’t be the only one. Shortages of absolutely necessary components like DRAM and NAND are likely to result in increasingly desperate measures appearing in the coming months.

Meanwhile, consumers can only watch the numbers that come after the $ increase non-stop.
