Google dominates ASIC market and doubles TPU orders at MediaTek [RUMOR]

While NVIDIA promotes GPUs as the final solution for AI processing, and benefits from this, the ASICs segment presents itself as an alternative for professional use of the most talked about technology of the moment. And in this area it seems that Google is ahead, with its famous TPUs.

The company’s TPUs (Tensor Processing Unit) would be so successful that they recently doubled the volume of chip orders for the manufacturer MediaTek, reports the Taiwan Economic Daily. To meet demand, Google would be diversifying its production line between TSMC, MediaTek and Broadcom, and the large volume recently ordered indicates the success of the products.

It is worth remembering that Google uses its TPUs internally as well, for processing on its own servers. But the company works with external customers and it is this demand that has resulted in an increase in the manufacturing volume of components.

According to WCCFTech, one of Google’s main external customers is Anthropic, which has already signed a contract for a new TPU infrastructure worth around US$10 billion. The order was confirmed by Hock Tan, CEO of Broadcom.

Google’s current generation of TPU is known as Ironwood, which attracted attention this year due to the leap in its processing capabilities compared to the previous version.

At the moment we still don’t have much information about Google’s next TPU, just its codename v7e. With the large volume of recent orders at MediaTek, it is expected that production capacity at the manufacturer is already being allocated for the TPU v7e.
