Cases with wooden details have become increasingly common, but Gigabyte attracted attention this week by bringing the material inside the PC. The new X870E AERO X3D Wood motherboard is based on AM5 and features small real wood details, as indicated by the “wood” in the name.

The name also features X3D, indicating that this is a model that offers X3D Turbo Mode 2.0, optimized for Ryzen processors with 3D V-Cache. In any case, Gigabyte’s new motherboard is compatible with AMD processors from the Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 series.

As usual for hardware products with wooden details, the X870E AERO X3D Wood has a design designed for less flashy builds. Thus, the card has a blank PCB and does not abandon the RGB LEDs, but there are not many of them and the lighting is more discreet than other models that are aggressively sold as “gamer”.

Board comes with two PCIe 5.0 slots for SSDs

Moving on to the technical side, the Gigabyte X870 AERO X3D Wood offers what is currently expected in a premium motherboard model. We have a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot with UD Slot X for the video card, another PCIe 5.0 with x8 lanes and a PCIe 4.0 with x4 – all in x16 format.

The connections for SSDs in M.2 format are covered by heatsinks, two of them on the PCIe 5.0 interface and the other two on PCIe 4.0. On the side, there are four 6Gbps SATA ports.

The board uses a 16+2+2 VRM design and offers four slots for DDR5 memories. There are two 8-pin connectors for the CPU and a 24-pin ATX connector for the board itself, facing forward.

Gigabyte does not reveal the board’s MSRP

Unfortunately we don’t have an official suggested price for the new Gigabyte card. VideoCardz states that the model is already appearing in some stores, but is listed as “out of stock”. The website was able to find, however, a value close to US$500 in one of the stores.

It is possible to find Gigabyte’s X870E boards on Newegg for between US$300 and US$400 (on average), so it is possible that the company will charge more affordable prices with the model becoming officially available in the USA as well.
