The Ryzen 7 9850X3D has been appearing in leaks for some time as a new, slightly “turbocharged” variant of the very successful 9800X3D. And this time we have possible confirmation that the processor will not need to increase its TDP to deliver more clock speeds, compared to the standard model.
As the screenshot below shows, a shipping manifest from October of this year listed the Ryzen 7 9850X3D for AM5 at 120W. This is the exact same TDP as the 9800X3D, showing that the new version of the processor will be able to offer a simple replacement without changing system configurations where current models are already available.

Previous rumors indicate that the Ryzen 7 9850X3D will have a base clock of 4.7GHz, but with the boost reaching 5.6GHz, 400MHz above the standard model. This means that the higher clock rate could only have been obtained through firmware adjustments and optimizations by AMD.
This is because the rest of the settings must be maintained, as indicated by the subtle change in name between the two models. In other words, we expect the 9850X3D to be presented at CES 2026 with 8 Zen 5 cores and 16 threads, accompanied by 96MB of L3 cache, the same capacity as the 9800X3D.
Ryzen X3D on sale:
While we wait for a simple clock gain for the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, the most recent rumors indicate that it should be presented alongside a new X3D that will replace the 9950X3D at the top of the line – the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2.

Just comparing the names, we can argue that this processor has an even more subtle change than the 9850X3D, but speculation expects a more impactful result. That’s because this CPU could be the first AMD model to offer dual 3D V-Cache for PCs.

Therefore, a much larger L3 capacity is expected for this model, reaching 192MB, while the standard 9950X3D offers 128MB. The TDP in this case should not be maintained, rising from 170W to 200W. Let’s keep an eye on January to see what information is confirmed.
