Announced by Valve in November this year, the new generation of the Steam Machine brings with it the potential to change the relationship that many people have with PC games. In this sense, the price that will be charged for the device should greatly influence its popularity — and analysts expect it to be in the US$700 range.
If this happens, the new product should be only slightly cheaper than the PlayStation 5 Pro, which sells for US$750 in the United States. According to the Linus Tech Tips channel, which made the prediction, the US$700 value is based on the lowest historical price of the types of components that Valve can use.
According to him, a machine with configurations similar to those of the new Steam Machine costs US$602 to assembletaking into account the lowest historical prices that the channel was able to find. Although it will not subsidize the price of the device, the manufacturer can further reduce these costs by working directly with distributors and receiving discounts when ordering large quantities of hardware.
Steam Machine price will be quite susceptible to inflation
In his video, Linus Tech Tips also warns that Valve will have to deal with issues such as inflation and rising component costs when assembling its new compact PC. He states that, depending on the moment, the same pieces that cost $602 can jump to $813 or even $910.
Thus, the channel explains that the value of US$700 should be maintained if “there are no changes in the market”, which seems unlikely, given the expectation of cost increases in the DRAM sector. “This is likely above Valve’s costs today, and there will be some opportunity for them to improve their margins over the several years of the device’s lifespan.”, explains Linus.
Although the value is not exactly low, the YouTuber believes that this pricing should help the Steam Machine become popularmainly in the North American market. However, the situation may be different in markets such as Brazil, where Valve does not officially sell its hardware.
According to the company, the official price of the new product will only be revealed in 2026, but it must adopt the same direct sales policy that it uses with the Steam Deck. The device has power equivalent to an entry-level PC, but the optimizations made by SteamOS, added to the heavy use of upscaling, should guarantee its compatibility with several recently released games.
