DJI’s latest compact selfie drone, the Neo 2, has received a firmware update. Now, it brings an important feature that brings you closer to a true FPV (First Person View) experience.

With firmware version 01.00.0400, and complementary updates for DJI controllers and goggles, the Neo 2 now supports Manual mode when used with the DJI Goggles N3 or Goggles 3 and the DJI FPV Remote Controller 3.

In short, users can now pilot the Neo 2 manually in immersive FPV style.

With the updated firmware, pilots using DJI Goggles N3 or Goggles 3 and the FPV Controller 3 can switch to Manual mode. This brings joystick-style manual flight to a drone previously positioned as a “smart following” camera.

The Neo 2 is now more versatile, especially for users who want the thrill of riding rather than relying solely on auto tracking.

In addition to the new mode, the update resolves several known issues, although the company has not publicly specified all the fixes. In general, update improves stability and responsiveness when using the glasses and remote control.

The Neo 2 was launched as a small, portable drone ideal for “follow-me” and content creation, weighing just 151g. It has a 12MP 1/2-inch CMOS sensor, a 2-axis gimbal, and can record 4K/60fps video as well as 100fps slow motion.

And its integrated omnidirectional obstacle detection system (with LiDAR/vision sensors) makes it safer for automatic flights around people or obstacles.

The new firmware removes some limitations and allows the user to control using the glasses and experiencing an FPV perspective. This means that the same lightweight drone becomes a gateway to FPV-style flying.

Unavailable in the US

FPV drones have gained enormous popularity in recent years, not just among enthusiasts and racing pilots, but also between content creators and filmmakers.

The pilot’s immersive perspective, fluidity of movement, and potential for dramatic cinematic effects are characteristics that traditional drones often struggle to replicate.

What makes the DJI Neo series important is that it signals a shift in the way entry-level compact drones are being designed: They are no longer labeled as “safe and easy for beginners”. Now they are evolving to serve both audiences — casual content creators and FPV enthusiasts.

With the detail that the Neo 2 is not officially available in the USA (at least for now). For Brazilians, they can purchase through Mercado Livre, for R$2,320. According to the link, glasses for FPV flight are not available. These need to be purchased separately.

The glasses, in turn, are quite an acquisition. The DJI Goggles N3 costs R$2,972.00 on Amazon and the Goggles 3 is available for R$5,699.05.

For those traveling light, you want simple “follow-me” at times and immersive FPV flights at other times, the DJI Neo series can be a versatile and attractive option.
