Memory component shortages have been affecting different segments of the hardware market, and now we have rumors that NVIDIA’s solution for the home segment is to simply not buy any more memory modules and let the AIBs handle it. The information is not official, but if it is true it will mainly affect smaller partners that work with GeForce.
As we know, NVIDIA does not normally sell its graphics cards directly in the PC segment. Instead, it is AIB (Add-in-Board) partners such as ASUS, MSI and Zotac that buy the GPUs and make various customized models that reach the market.
What is often not mentioned is that these GPUs already come with GDDR memories, making the process much easier for AIBs to just “complete” the card. According to current rumors, NVIDIA may actually start selling just the GPU. The information comes from Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, which has a good history of hardware leaks.
If confirmed, NVIDIA’s new stance could affect other smaller companies
As the insider mentions, this change in strategy could greatly impact smaller companies. In addition to rising prices, obtaining memory components has become an increasing challenge.
