With each new generation of AMD processors, those with 3D V-Cache technology stand out and become the kings of games. Even Ryzen 9000 processors based on Zen 5, a new architecture that is superior to the previous one, they will not outperform the Ryzen 7000X3D in games, according to AMD itself.
Tom’s Hardware spoke with the marketing manager for AMD processors and asked where the Ryzen 9000 ranks in games. Donny Woligroski states that, although they are faster than the competitor, they still lose to the Ryzen with 3D V-Cache technology, but the difference is not that big, apparently.
“Is it the fastest in games? It’s faster than competitors in our tests. X3D is still king of the hill, but by a much smaller margin than what typically exists between X3D and non-X3D.” So a 7800X3D would be, yes, faster than the 9700X, but maybe not as much as you would expect“, Explain.
This was already something seen in previous generations
Although Tom’s Hardware says that even the powerful Ryzen 9 7950X lags behind the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, in games, the results were different in our review, with an advantage for the top-of-the-line Zen CPU
We still don’t know about the difference between the Ryzen 9000 and the Ryzen 7000X3D, but what we do know about the first Zen 5 desktop CPUs is that they will be 16% faster than their predecessors. This is due to more L1 and L2 cache memory, in addition to higher frequencies.
Because of this evolution, the AMD representative guarantees that the difference in performance compared to the Ryzen Zen 4 with 3D V-Cache technology is small, as the new processors have evolved in a generous way.
AMD has not yet given details about the Ryzen 9000X3D, despite having already somewhat confirmed that they will exist at some point. About this, Woligroski said:
And when it comes to X3D, and I’m going to talk about this now, we are very committed to X3D. In fact, we have some really, really cool updates for X3D on the way. So we are working on iteration and not just repetition.
