With just a month and a half left until 2025 ends, AMD managed to fulfill its promise to start offering FSR Redstone to its users in the second half of 2025. The technology makes its debut in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 tomorrow, November 14th. However, there are important caveats to highlight in this release.
Only one feature from the new generation of FSR will be available in the new COD, called Ray Regeneration. As the name suggests, “ray regeneration”, the technology infers and restores details with ray tracing from sparse samples, which promises a more beautiful-looking result and less weight on the GPU compared to the ray tracing that FSR 4 does.

It’s an interesting feature to begin with, since ray tracing has been precisely the technology that generally performs best on NVIDIA GPUs.
FSR Redstone does not make its full debut
It’s worth remembering, however, that the FSR Redstone was promised with three other technologies, for a total of four. Just like Ray Regeneration, we will also have new versions of super resolution and frame generation based on Machine Learning, which promise quality improvements without weighing on performance.

The fourth technology is Neural Radiance Caching, which promises to dynamically “learn” the propagation of light rays in a scene, to “predict” their behavior and integrate global illumination more efficiently.
New only on AMD Radeon RX 9000 cards
In its announcement, AMD highlights that FSR Redstone only arrives on Radeon RX 9000 cards, based on RDNA 4. This is not surprising, since AMD had already mentioned the limitation when it revealed the new generation of FSR, back in May this year.
RX 9000 GPUs on sale:
We already have rumors that the feature may end up being available on more GPUs – including non-AMD models – but so far the company’s official position is that an RX 9000 is required to use FSR Redstone.

In any case, when announcing the debut of the technology in Black Ops 7, Jack Huyhn, graphics executive at AMD, promises that “this is just the beginning” for the new feature.
