Samsung took everyone by surprise and launched this Friday, November 14th, the Galaxy Book 5 Edge 5G. This is a cost-benefit notebook with a Snapdragon chip.

In addition to the relatively lower price, the model stands out for its metal construction, promise of extensive battery life thanks to processing and onboard 5G connectivity.

In the case of the 61.2 Wh battery and 65 W charging, it is important to highlight that the company claims that it would provide up to 27 hours of video playback. However, actual use may have different values.

Even so, the promise of 24 hours of operation is significant for those who carry their notebook to various places for work.

Visually, and in most of the technical data, it is almost identical to the Galaxy Book 4 Edge launched in Brazil at the beginning of the year. It is a single piece of aluminum in a slightly bluish silver tone, called Sapphire Blue by the South Korean giant, with a thickness of 15.5 mm and a weight of 1.66 kg.

Talking about what matters, the main difference is in the chipset used, the Snapdragon X (model X1-26-100). The chip is made up of 8 Oryon cores running at up to 2.98 GHz, an Adreno X1-45 GPU with 1.7 TFLOPs of computing power and a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) with a capacity of up to 45 TOPS.

Combined with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAMsoldered on the motherboard, the set is basic, but should have good performance for daily tasks such as browsing the internet and editing documents and images, especially in programs that are already adapted for the Arm architecture. Other than that, it comes with 512GB of eUFS storage.

The screen is also simple and employs a 15.6-inch IPS LCD panel, with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 60 Hz refresh rate. There is also an anti-reflection layer and a stereo sound system, with Dolby Atmos spatial audio certification.

Connections are another highlight, especially 5G connectivity — an advantage over the Book 4 Edge. Along with mobile networks, it comes with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, 2 USB-C 4 ports (with a speed of 40 Gbps), USB-A 3.2, HDMI 2.1, headphone and microphone connector, and hybrid drawer for MicroSD and SIM chip.

It also comes with a 2 MP webcam, backlit keyboard with fingerprint reader and numeric keys. The operating system is Windows 11 Home with the Copilot Plus PC AI suite.

Availability

Just as memories increased around the world and this increase did not arrive in Brazil, this model is not available, at least for now, here. The Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Edge 5G was launched in the United Kingdom, in a single configuration with a suggested retail price of £949 (R$6,621.19).

In the country, there are few models with Snapdragon available for sale. With only two being possible to purchase on the Samsung website. Specifically, these are the 14″ Galaxy Book Go (R$2,249.00) and the 15.6″ Galaxy Book4 Edge with Copilot+ PC (R$8,549.05).

The alternative ends up being to choose models with Intel processors, such as the Galaxy Book4, which can be purchased with an i3 for R$3,999.00 or with an i5 for R$4,999.00. There is also a more expensive option in the Galaxy Book4 Ultra, which comes with an Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 and costs R$18,049.05.
