The GPD Win 5 became famous for being the first officially announced portable video game with AMD Strix Halo processors. Until its launch, however, we had the appearance of competitors with a similar proposal, so GPD decided to respond to the dispute with an even “tougher” version of its handheld: with 128GB of RAM.
The announcement was made on social media, on the official GPD account. The company confirms that the GPD Win 5 will get a new 128GB version and not only that, but this model with more memory will also come with a blank case.
Interestingly, the company mentions that LLM (Large Language Models, or generative AI) users will “love” the device. It’s hard to imagine anyone with enough money to buy a Strix Halo laptop wanting to use the device to run AI models, but GPD is betting on the technology’s hype as an extra incentive for the new version of Win 5.
GPD Win 5 white 128GB price has not yet been announced
GPD’s post limits itself to revealing that the new version of the PC gaming console exists, but does not go into details. In other words, we don’t know a launch window or how much the product will cost.
Currently, the most advanced GPD Win 5 option comes with Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and 64GB of RAM, accompanied by 4TB of storage. This model was announced for US$2,268, so we can expect a price above that.
Maybe not much higher, though. OneXFly is GPD’s current main competitor, with its own Strix Halo handheld, the Apex. The company already offers an option with Ryzen AI Max and 128GB that costs US$2,239 (or US$2,299 with liquid cooling).

It is interesting to remember that the third competitor in the segment will be Next 2, from Ayaneo. This handheld remains quite mysterious, but recently the company showed off its new design, revealing that the device will be offered in both black and white at launch.
In other words, the new version of GPD Win 5 really looks like a response to its main competitors, both in terms of specs and appearance.
