TSMC will increase prices for its most advanced processes [RUMOR]

TSMC would be planning price increases on some of its most advanced manufacturing processes, according to a report by TrendForce. The company can increase its technologies below 5nm by an average of between 3% and 4%, but some sources claim that newer processes, such as 2nm, could see an increase of up to 10%.

Unofficial sources point out that TSMC began informing its largest customers about the increases in September this year – a time when we had the rumor that the 2nm process alone could have an increase of up to 50% in its price.

Now, market analysts predict that TSMC’s 2nm process will see consecutive price increases for the next four years, starting in January 2026. By 2030, these increases should reach percentages in the tens, affecting cutting-edge computer and electronics products.

High demand encourages TSMC price hike

As one would expect, the industry’s insatiable appetite driven by AI hype has placed heavy demands on TSMC’s production capacity in its most complex processes. Not only the famous Big Techs, but also AI startups have resulted in a high demand for the chips that the Taiwanese company is capable of manufacturing.

Initially, the large increases for the 2nm process were expected for its new facilities in the USA, when they began producing with the technology. However, it appears that the increase will happen across all TSMC units.

Worsening the situation, to meet the high demand for its processes below 5nm, TSMC would be reallocating resources from its more mature processes to newer technologies, which should reduce the supply of these products, impacting their prices as well.

As always, these increases in manufacturing costs are expected to be passed on to end consumers of products that use technologies from the world’s largest chipmaker.
