The codenames Medusa and Venice have been around for a long time, referring to the next generation of processors based on Zen 6 – domestic Ryzen and Epyc, respectively. Now, AMD has confirmed that the names are correct, using them in a presentation at the OCP Global Summit 2025.
As shown in the image below, the 6th generation Epyc processors are also known as Venice, and are expected to arrive in 2026. AMD had already confirmed this codename previously, when it revealed that they would be the first HPC components in the entire industry to be finished on TSMC’s 2nm process.

Next on the slide, AMD comments on Phoenix processors, based on Zen 4, and then on the Ryzen Medusa, from the Zen 6 generation. This is the first time that we have information coming directly from the company referring to its upcoming components for desktops and notebooks with that name.
AMD prepares transition to openSIL
Obviously, we cannot fail to mention that the slide in question talks about AMD’s transition to openSIL. Still in 2023, the company revealed its plans to abandon the proprietary AGESA firmware and move to the open openSIL standard, with the promise of greater transparency, security and customization.

The Zen 6-based Epyc Venice will be the first server processors in its segment to support firmware, as early as 2026. The Ryzen Medusa are expected to support the platform in the first half of 2027.
The three Zen 6 gorgons
Leaks about AMD’s next generation of domestic processors so far indicate that we will have a higher core count, manufactured both in TSMC’s new 2nm process and in 3nm in the case of more affordable models.
Ryzen processors on offer:
The names Medusa Point and Medusa Halo have already appeared in rumors, drawing direct parallels with the Strix Point and Strix Halo series of notebook APUs. Medusa Ridge has also been circulating in unofficial information, referring to the Zen 6 desktop models.

Confirming that the codenames were correct certainly offers more credibility to many of the rumors that have been appearing about AMD.
