Summary
- The iPhone Air 2 could have a dual camera with a 48 MP ultra-wide lens to reverse weak sales.
- The first generation of iPhone Air, launched in September, had sales below Apple’s expectations, except in China.
- In Brazil, the device arrived costing R$10,499.
Despite lower-than-expected sales, Apple did not give up on the iPhone Air and would have already thought about a new version with updated cameras. According to leaker Digital Chat Station, the Cupertino giant is exploring a new model with two lenses, instead of just one.
One of the main criticisms of the first generation iPhone Air, in addition to the battery, was precisely the photographic set. The current model has just one main lens, repeating what happens with the iPhone 16e, which replaced the SE line as Apple’s “cheapest”.
The Air, on the contrary, arrived in Brazil in September and costs from R$10,499. This would have alienated users accustomed to at least one ultra-wide or telephoto camera from the main lines.

Thus, the addition of a second camera would be Apple’s attempt to correct the course. According to the rumor, the manufacturer is considering adding a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle lens to complement the 48 MP main camera.
The rumor also indicates that the company would bet on digital crop (cropping of the main image) to offer a 2x zoom, as it does in entry-level models. The rest of the design, such as the 6.5-inch screen and the ultra-thin body, which follows recent trends from manufacturers, would remain without major changes.
To avoid repeating the flop?
The decision appears to be a response to the poor commercial performance of the first iPhone Air, the very thin one that replaced the Plus version in Apple’s new generation.
Industry sources indicate that the model had weak sales in almost all markets except China — which was not enough to support Apple’s initial projections.
With low demand, Apple had to change plans and started to prioritize the manufacture of other models, such as the iPhone 17 — which is doing well — and the iPhone 17 Pro.
Despite the iPhone Air, the upgrades to the base models, such as the addition of 120 Hz screens, greater storage and a better set of cameras, may have been more successful with the public.
