Samsung launched its new series of microSD Express cards this week, the P9 Express. The company highlights its new products mainly for the Nintendo Switch 2, since the console requires the microSD Express generation for its games, but the cards will obviously be useful for any compatible device.

There are two capacity options at launch, with users being able to choose between 256GB of storage or 512GB. Samsung promises sequential read speeds of up to 800MB/s via the NVMe protocol, but does not offer further information about the cards’ performance.

The company promotes its products more for their durability, highlighting that they feature Host Memory Buffer (HMB) and also Dynamic Thermal Guard (DTG) – technology originally developed for SSDs.

The HMB uses memory from the system where the microSD is installed to speed up data access, which should improve gaming performance. DTG, in turn, monitors and regulates the card’s temperature, to prevent overheating and promote greater longevity with consistent performance, according to Samsung.

The company also highlights that its new products have protection against immersion in water, extreme temperatures, exposure to X-rays, magnetic fields, accidental falls and wear and tear from use.

Samsung will offer its new P9 Express cards through its partners and also directly through its official website. The 256GB option costs a suggested retail price of US$55, while the 512GB model brings the price to US$100.
