Amid the promotional process for the Xbox ROG Ally, the current leader of Microsoft’s gaming division, Sarah Bond, spoke a little about the company’s next desktop console. In an interview with Mashable, the executive confirmed that a “very premium platform” is currently being planned.
Bond did not go into details about the device, but stated that some of the ideas he will adopt are similar to those implemented in notebooks made with ASUS. Naturally, the speech had a lot of repercussions on social media and gave rise to rumors that the company is planning a kind of “hybrid with the PC”.
The next-gen console is going to be quite premium and a curated high-performance experience. You’re starting to see some of the thought that went into this laptop, but I don’t want to give it all away
Sarah Bond, CEO of the Xbox division
Xbox fans’ biggest concern is that the company may be targeting a very small slice of consumerswho would be willing to pay a lot for a console. Adding this to recent increases in Microsoft hardware, the readjustment of Game Pass and the fact that games are becoming more expensive, the hobby seems to be on its way to becoming even more inaccessible.
Bond’s speeches strengthen rumors that Microsoft is planning to move away from the traditional console market in its next generation. While it should still produce a device in partnership with AMDit could end up serving as a reference for projects from other manufacturers.
This more open structure could, in practice, bring the device closer to PCs, which would guarantee access to stores such as Steam and the Epic Games Store. The challenge in this sense would be to ensure backwards compatibility of games made for the company’s previous consoles, but which did not have versions for computers.
The format also presents a challenge when it comes to pricing, especially if Microsoft does not decide to subsidize the amount that will be charged. Given the company’s recent moves, this doesn’t seem like it will be one of its priorities — especially since it may continue to sell its software on competing platforms.

Of concrete, What is known is that the Xbox will really have a new generation and Microsoft says it is “100% committed” to the future of the brand. At the same time, Bond explained to Variety that the company is going through a “change of pace,” which could change its pricing philosophies and the way it operates in the market.
