That’s why, Discovering that Apple’s M5 can achieve solid frame rates in Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing enabled is something that needs to be seen for yourself. Now, thanks to The Tech Cap channel, this is possible.
The performance difference is 190% compared to the M4. However, the disappointing part of this comparison is that one YouTuber decided it was a good idea to compare Apple’s new MacBook Pro M5 to the current generation MacBook Air. So, it’s easy to know how this disparity was formed.
The MacBook Air M4 running Cyberpunk 2077 likely reached its thermal limit early on, giving the MacBook Pro M5 an unimaginable advantage.

Tom (the channel’s host) ran several benchmarks on Apple’s new 14-inch MacBook Pro M5, including Cyberpunk 2077. Instead of comparing the latest and greatest portable Mac to its direct predecessor, the 14-inch MacBook Pro M4, he decided to use the MacBook Air M4 as a reference.
It is about excellent hardware that can handle just about anything. However, its biggest weakness is the lack of a cooling fan and the reliance on a large heatsink for cooling.
While this passive cooling solution is acceptable for 99% of tasks, running intense games is definitely not one of them. And this is probably the reason why the MacBook Pro M5 achieves a 190% difference in FPS with ray tracing enabled, as it has a fan to dissipate heat.
More credible results
With ray tracing disabled, the results are more realistic, with the MacBook Pro M5 being 56.25% faster than the MacBook Air M4, achieving 75 FPS. Therefore, running Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing enabled, the M5 is 190% faster than the M4:
- M5 – 58 FPS
- M4 – 20 FPS
Already running Cyberpunk 2077 without ray tracing enabledthe results show that the M5 is 56.25% faster than the M4:
