Intel held an investor conference recently where it explained that it has been facing supply issues in the last quarter for the manufacture of its chips. The situation is expected to continue throughout 2026 and result in price increases on many of its processors, including models from past generations such as the Raptor Lake line.

“Capacity issues, especially in Intel 10 and Intel 7 (processes), limited our ability to fully meet demand in Q3 for both data center and consumer products,” said David Zinsner, Intel CFO.

The Intel 7 process is also known as Enhanced FinFET, used since 2021. It appears in 13th and 14th processors, the CPUs known as Raptor Lake and its refresh. Intel 10, meanwhile, is the 10nm SuperFin, which appears in a variety of processors.

“In Q4 we expect a modest decline in the client computing group and a strong increase in the data center and AI group, as we prioritize wafer (production) capacity for server orders over entry-level customer components,” added Zinsner.

Price adjustments on Intel CPUs are confirmed

Intel’s chief financial officer did not talk about the numbers we can expect in terms of price increases for its processors, but confirmed that the “adjustments” will happen.

“Given the current environment of limited capacity, which we expect to persist through 2026, we are working closely with our customers to maximize production, including adjusting prices.”

The “limited capacity” cited by Zinsner not only refers to Intel’s factories not being able to meet demand, but also to a shortage in the materials needed to produce the components.

“I believe there are widespread reports of a lack of substrates, for example,” declared the CFO. “So, I believe that the demand, you know, there is still a lot of caution going into next year, I believe in all areas.”

Intel expects to face the “peak” of product shortages in the next quarter, as the company still had more inventory between Q3 and Q4 to face production volume issues.
