Summary
- Instagram has launched Restyle, an AI photo editor that uses Meta AI to modify images in Stories through text prompts.
- Restyle lets you remove details, add elements, and apply effects, with preset options or custom instructions.
- The function is being released gradually and can also be used in videos, but only with Meta AI presets.
Instagram announced, this Thursday (10/23), the launch of the Restyle function. The tool uses Meta AI to edit stories according to what you write in a text prompt, very reminiscent of Nano Banana, present in Google’s Gemini.
“If you want to remove an unwanted detail, add a fun element, change the vibe using a different effect or start a trend with your friends, now you can do it in a simple way”, says the statement from the social network. “Use Restyle on your photos and videos in Instagram Stories to make edits with Meta AI, whether big or small.”
As is customary with Meta releases, Restyle is being released gradually and may take a few weeks to reach you.
How to use Restyle?
Start creating a story and choose a photo from your gallery. Then, tap the brush icon at the top of the screen. Restyle offers three predefined options for adding, removing or changing elements. Just choose one of them and type what you want. You can also go directly to the prompt without choosing between these alternatives.
With this, you can remove people from the background of photos, change people’s hair color, place fun objects like crowns and balloons, change the background to a sunset and much more.
According to the company, to achieve the desired result, it is recommended that you write detailed instructions: say which person should receive the effects, explain how you want the lighting, point out in which area of the image the edits should be made, describe the desired style and specify a place to serve as a backdrop, for example.
Meta also added some ready-made effects, which can be applied without relying on additional instructions, such as transforming the image style into anime, watercolor or 8-bit, among others. Restyle is also available for videos, but in this case, you can only use the presets offered by Meta AI.
