This Wednesday (10/22), Microsoft started distributing Restyle, Paint’s new artificial intelligence feature in Windows 11. The new feature arrives first for participants in the Windows Insider program and allows you to apply different artistic styles to images.
Present in version 1.2509.441.0 of the app, Restyle appears in the Copilot menu and offers predefined style options, such as transforming a common photo into an illustration with a Pop Art aesthetic.
How does Paint’s new feature work?
Restyle was presented as a tool that allows you to apply complex artistic transformations without the need for technical knowledge in design or the use of third-party software. Access is via the Copilot menu, on Paint’s main toolbar.
According to the instructions released by Microsoft, to use the resource the user must:
- Open an image in Paint;
- Click on Copilot and select the Restyle option;
- Choose the predefined artistic style in the sidebar;
- Click Generate.
Microsoft has not specified whether AI processing occurs locally on the device (on-device) or requires processing in the cloud.
Since the image is generated by AI, Paint offers the user some action options, such as adding the image to the desktop. The user can also copy the image to the Windows clipboard or save the result as a separate image file.

Who can already use it?
The distribution of the resource will happen gradually. In the initial phase, the feature is available exclusively to Windows Insider program participants, who receive test builds of Windows 11 and applications. Microsoft specified that the Paint update (version 11.2509.441.0) is being rolled out to the Canary, Dev, and Beta channels.
These channels represent different levels of stability and update frequency, with Canary being the most experimental and Beta the closest to a stable public release. This release method allows Microsoft to collect feedback and identify potential issues before a large-scale rollout to all Windows 11 users.
In addition to being on one of the aforementioned Insider channels and having the correct version of Paint, users must be signed in with a Microsoft Account within the application to access the feature.
According to Microsoft, Restyle will also be available on Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon, which include advanced Neural Processing Units (NPUs). The company confirmed that the new feature, as well as other AI-based features, will not be available for Windows 10, whose support ended on October 14th.
