Changing the app icon is done from the feed itself: just tap the Instagram logo, displayed at the top of the home screen, to access the customization options. Among the available variations are neon versions, translucent glass, fire, flowers and a design with a “green goo” appearance.
Why only for teenage accounts?
According to the TechCrunchInstagram wants to make teenage accounts more attractive. The company told the website that it launched the personalized icons after discovering that young people like to customize their experience on the app. The resource should not be released to adults.
Instagram has been investing since 2024 in specific versions for minors, which include content limits classified for those over 13 years old. The company also uses artificial intelligence to identify teenage accounts that have entered incorrect ages, automatically migrating them.


These measures, however, were challenged in an internal report by Meta itself. The document reveals flaws in Instagram’s screening systems and indicates that the platform displays more harmful content to vulnerable teenagers.
Still, Instagram seeks to win over young people with features that increase their sense of control and belonging to the platform. As noted by the TechCrunchthe decision follows a trend already consolidated since iOS 14, when Apple popularized widgets and home screen customization, especially among teenage iPhone users.
