Summary
- Apple’s new Siri is delayed and is expected to launch in March 2026 with iOS 26.4.
- Performance issues are leading to engineers leaving Apple’s AI division.
- The assistant did not meet the expected quality standard, according to executive Craig Federighi.
Apple software engineers are concerned about the performance of the new version of Siri, according to Bloomberg. It should debut between March and April 2026, with the launch of iOS 26.4, and bring new artificial intelligence abilities. The information comes from journalist Mark Gurman, who follows behind the scenes at the iPhone manufacturer.
Gurman indicates that problems with AI are leading to the departure of important names from this division of the company. On the other hand, this does not seem to be an issue for consumers: preliminary numbers indicate that the iPhone 17 was well accepted among the public, with good commercial performance in the first days after launch.
Gurman does not detail the technical problems involving Siri. The website Macworld speculates some possibilities, such as errors in understanding or difficulties in processing the context of the commands.
Information about users’ concerns comes shortly after the company expanded access to the new version of the assistant, still under development. In September 2025, news emerged that Apple had created a separate app to run Siri, aimed solely at internal testing, as a way to speed up the process.
Assistant did not meet quality standards, says executive
The revamped Siri was announced at WWDC 2024, in June of that year. Apple promised that the assistant would be able to check what’s on the screen, check personal context and control apps. With this, it would be possible, for example, to ask for information about a person’s flight and what their lunch plans were — the assistant would be able to access Mail and Messages to perform the task.
The initial planning was to include this Siri in iOS 18.4, released in March 2025, but Apple stopped including these features in the update — which even led to an accusation of false advertising in the United States Court. According to executive Craig Federighi, there was a quality problem: the assistant did not prove reliable enough for the brand’s standards.
